Lembah Sembalun (Ngayu-ayu Tirta Ceremony)

Masjid Lokaq Sesait by sesaitcommunity.blogspot.com.jpg

It is a traditional ritual done by Sembalun villagers around the valley. The procession begins with taking water from 12 different springs in a late afternoon, a day right before the ceremony. Early morning on the following day people behead a buffalo to begin the ceremony, then they bury the buffalo’s head in the village corner to acknowledge and show how thankful the villagers are to their God, continued with ngaturangsesampang, mapakin, and carrying water from 12 different springs using umbaq, brought into the grave of RebonBande, a devil slayer. This ceremony has been done since 653 years ago. And they’re still doing it once in three years, or right before they start the planting season in the month of Rajab(7th month in lunar calendar).
